The team at Knight likes to help out where we can. So we were thrilled when we had the opportunity to make a $1,000 donation to the Copperfield School Lunch Program in Dec. 2018.
One Hungry Child Sparked an Idea
It was our vice president Ryan Wandler that first brought up the idea. “I was volunteering at the school for lunch – I usually do this once a month.”
It was during one of this visits that a little girl ran up to him, crying. “She was crying because she didn’t have a lunch. It broke my heart, but luckily Copperfield has a lunch program. I sent her there and she got a drink, an apple, and some other pre-packaged food.”
“I was so glad she got a lunch, but wanted to do something more – I wanted to make sure that every kid had access to all the good food they needed,” Ryan says. “No matter what the reason, there are some kids who come to school without a lunch, and it’s hard to learn when you’re hungry and can’t focus.”
Ryan brought the idea of a donation to Bernie and Belinda Wandler, who eagerly agreed that it was an amazing way to contribute to the school.
With This Donation, There Will Lunches for the Rest of the Year
The lunch program at Copperfield will be able to use the donation we made before the holidays to help give hungry children nutritious lunches for the rest of the school year.
“We are really feeling the spirit of the season at Copperfield,” said Patti Swain, the principal of Copperfield School. “We can’t begin to thank you enough for the donation.”
Past Donations to Copperfield School
This is not the first time we’ve had the pleasure of donating Copperfield. In the past, we’ve donated money for agriculture kits, books, and tone chimes for music class.
